Before you can get healthy, you have to believe you’re worth getting healthy for.
“You have a purpose, you have a calling, you have hopes and dreams, and you’re called to have a big impact on those around you. And in order to do that, you need to be the healthiest version of yourself—and it starts with your identity.” — Kyle Recchia, CEO of FastFit®
In this episode, I share the story behind my new book, Fit for the Calling. It starts with my dad—a loving, good-hearted man who was also obese, had type 2 diabetes, and smoked every day. I watched his health decline for years. Shortly after I started working for The Perfect Workout as a personal trainer, I got the call that he had passed away—before he ever had the opportunity to meet my first son, Liam. That loss became my catalyst: how do I live as long as possible for my family, and how do I help other people do the same?
But the road wasn’t straight. I went through my own seasons of health issues, coping mechanisms, and addiction. I lost himself for a stretch—and it took years of healing across the physical, mental, and spiritual to come out the other side. The book was born from that process, sparked by a conversation at church with someone who had a clear calling but couldn’t step into it because their health was holding them back.
Fit for the Calling starts with identity—the belief that you are loved, accepted, and capable before you take any next step. It moves into the practical how of getting healthy, following an 80/20 philosophy that cuts through the noise. And it ends with purpose. I’m also releasing a companion study guide designed for individuals, small groups, church groups, or workplaces.
The book is available April 1 wherever books are sold, including Amazon (Kindle and print) and Barnes & Noble, with an Audible version in the works..
