Podcast Episode #67: GLP-1s, Hormone Therapy, and Why Your Foundation Comes First

Until you fix your foundation, you’re wasting your money on every biohack, peptide, and hormone therapy.

“You need to know what is foundationally going on before you add any of this stuff. Biohacking and stacking and peptides is really big right now. But until you fix your foundation, you’re wasting your money.” — Nichole “Coco” Wolf, FNP, Coco Functional Wellness

In this episode, Nichole Wolf tackles two of the most talked-about—and most misunderstood—tools in modern medicine: GLP-1s and hormone therapy.

She starts with a use case most people haven’t heard about: microdosing GLP-1s not for weight loss, but for inflammation. Nichole prefers tirzepatide (GLP-1 + GIP) because in her practice it reduces inflammation with fewer side effects. At a micro dose, it lowers inflammatory markers like CRP, fasting glucose, insulin, and A1C, while also reducing “food noise”—which can help people drink less, snack less, even smoke less. And she makes a key point: GLP-1 is a peptide your body already makes naturally, just like insulin. It’s not something to fear if you need to supplement it—but where you get it matters. Reputable pharmacy, third-party tested, never off Amazon.

On hormone therapy, Nichole is clear: it’s not for everybody, and it must be individualized—never a mass protocol. She prefers bioidentical hormones over synthetic (synthetic is inflammatory) and walks through the delivery systems she uses: veggie tabs (great mucosal absorption, no mess), creams (watch for transference to partners and kids), and pills for progesterone. She avoids testosterone injections when possible because they can thicken the blood and raise cardiovascular risk. She also pushes back on the outdated studies that scared a generation of women away from estrogen—a longevity hormone critical for bone, brain, joint, mental, and sexual health.

The through-line of the entire episode—and our series of conversations—is this: fix your foundation first. Exercise, sleep, sunlight, hydration, and basic supplementation come before any peptide or hormone stack. Kyle shares his own cautionary tale of trying to be “the CEO of his own health,” falling into the Dunning-Kruger trap, and taking supplements that were actively making things worse. The answer isn’t guessing from Instagram or AI. It’s working with a practitioner who gets to know your biology.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How GLP-1s (specifically tirzepatide/GLP-1 + GIP) can be microdosed for inflammation—not just weight loss
  • Why GLP-1 is a peptide your body makes naturally, and why sourcing from a reputable pharmacy matters
  • The inflammatory markers that improve with microdosing: CRP, fasting glucose, insulin, and A1C
  • Why Nichole prefers bioidentical hormones over synthetic—and the delivery systems she uses (veggie tabs, creams, pills)
  • Why she avoids testosterone injections and monitors blood markers closely when they’re used
  • How hormone transference through creams can affect partners and children
  • Why the old studies linking estrogen to breast cancer were flawed—and why estrogen is a longevity hormone
  • The most important principle of the whole series: fix your foundation before stacking any biohacks
